| A press briefing was held on 9 July 2004 at Max Restaurant, Quezon City. Fred Lubang, National Coordinator of the Philippine Action Network on Small Arms (PHILANSA), together with Jessica Soto, Executive Director of Amnesty International - Pilipinas and David Dasilva, Political and Economic Relations of the Canadian Embassy, formed the panel for the press. |

Jessica Soto presented the global context of the issue while Fred Lubang presented a 22-minute documentary film on the Philippine case which PHILANSA has made for a roving exhibit with the theme ‘Life Beyond Weapons: Making Communites Safer’. The Canadian representative lauded PHILANSA for the efforts and reaffirmed Canada's support for the network's efforts.
A symbolic gun destruction ceremony was held after the press conference. Toy guns were destroyed using a hammer, some were ran over by a car.
The event was well covered by the media, both print and TV. In the evening, a program on Channel 23, 'Wazzup Wazzup’, featured the event including interviews with Jessica Soto, Fred Lubang and David Dasilva.
