The EU-Assistance on Curbing Small Arms and Light Weapons in Cambodia handed over 26 computers, printers and photocopy machines to the Royal Gendarmerie on 7 June to maintain a database on small arms possession. The computers will be used at Provincial Headquarters of the Gendarmerie throughout the country to register small arms in the possession of the Gendarmerie in a national database. A ten-day training programme was also launched for 52 computer operators from different provinces who will be trained to use the database and later be responsible for entering registration details of all the weapons.
The training forms a part of the EU-ASAC's Registration and Safe Storage project for improved weapons management and greater security in Cambodia.
The event received media coverage in two leading Khmer daily newspapers - Koh Santapheap" (on 9 June) and "Rasmei Kampuchea" (on 10 June).
