UN Small Arms Process

Disarm Domestic Violence

An International campaign for the Elimination of Violence against Women is under way.

In Israel, a newly proposed ‘Security Services Law’ threatens an existing, though un-enforced, clause of the Firearms Law that restricts security guards from taking their guns home. If the proposed law were implemented it would automatically allow security guards to take their guns home whilst off-duty.

Nearly 60% of women murdered in Argentina from 1997 to 2010 were killed with a gun, according to IANSA member Asociación para Políticas Públicas (APP).

The Arms Trade Treaty

Control Arms has been nominated for the 2012 Nobel Peace Prize by the International Peace Bureau (IPB). Control Arms is a global civil society alliance launched jointly in 2003 by IANSA, Amnesty International and Oxfam to advocate for a strong Arms Trade Treaty.

Nearly 150 Members of Parliament worldwide have signed the Parliamentarian Declaration on the Arms Trade Treaty. According to the Control Arms Secretariat, “Support from parliamentarians is critical to our long-term success

Global Week of Action Against Gun Violence

The Human Security Initiative Organization (MAMAN) in Sudan, organised several events during the Global Week of Action Against Gun Violence 2011, including a discussion forum on small arms and a moving theatre in the state of Khartoum.

The Caribbean Institute for the Rule of Law (ICED), an IANSA member in the Dominican Republic, has released the results of a survey on the impact of firearms in domestic violence against women.

From 22-28 June, IANSA member Mur-Africa Universel held a series of successful events in the Central African Republic, including meetings with military officers, the Muslim community, a Catholic and a Baptist Church.
