Two fathers who lost young children to gun violence travelled to Turkey to attend a rally at the Izmir International Fair on 10 September 2006.
The rally generated media coverage for several days before and after the event. David performed a song originally recorded to honour the victims of the Dunblane massacre (Scotland). They plan to return in 2007 with a new video highlighting the problem of gun violence in Turkey.
Stray bullets from guns fired into the air during weddings and other celebrations kill or injure many people every year in Turkey.
Tuncer Essizhan, grandfather of Alistair Grimason, is pursing a lawsuit in the European Court of Human Rights against two Turkish parliamentarians photographed firing weapons in the air during a wedding in 2005. Click here to read an article in the SABAH newspaper about the case.
