Campaigners rallied for tougher gun laws at the International Fair in Izmir (Turkey) on 7 September 2007. The event received widespread coverage in the Turkish media.
IANSA members travelled from Scotland to join the rally, including the Crozier family, whose daughter Emma was killed in the Dunblane (Scotland) school massacre in 1996, and David Grimason, whose son Alistair was shot dead on a family holiday in Turkey during 2003. Turkish relatives of Alistair also attended the rally.
Key speakers included Dr. Tulay Ozuerman, a leading human rights academic, Okan Yuksel, President of the Izmir Chamber of Commerce, David Grimason, father of Alistair, Tuncer Essizhan, a lawyer and grandfather of Alistair and John Crozier father of Emma. The event also featured poetry, music, and ended with the song "Throw these Guns Away".
