13 September 2006 - action in Europe

UK campaigners broadcasting Control Arms messages outside key embassies

Italy

Campaigners visited embassies of the 7 co-sponsors of the draft UN resolution starting a process of discussion of an Arms Trade Treaty. Amnesty International - Italy also organised an email campaign targetting these embassies.

Spain

Campaigners sent letters to the ambassadors of Mexico, Morocco, and Philippines, urging their governments to support an Arms Trade Treaty.

Turkey

A press statement was issued to the international media and a petition with 500 signatures was delivered to the Turkish government, organised by Amnesty International - Turkey.

UK

Campaigners visited a number of embassies in London (Brazil, India, Nigeria, Pakistan, and South Africa). 5 activists carried TV screens on their back showing footage of individuals advocating their support for an ATT. This followed a postcard action to embassies in UK (Algeria, Brazil, India, Nigeria, Pakistan, Russia and South Africa) asking them to vote in support of the draft UN resolution on an ATT.
