On International Human Rights Day (10 December), Amnesty International has launched 'make some noise', using the songs of John Lennon to promote human rights including the Control Arms campaign for a global Arms Trade Treaty to stop guns getting into the hands of human rights abusers.

On 9 January 2006, the world's governments will begin a series of meetings at the United Nations in New York (US) to agree on measures to prevent gun proliferation and misuse, culminating in a world summit on small arms in June 2006.
