France
A consultation in France was launched in March by the Institut de Relations Internationales et Stratégiques (IRIS). IRIS brought together experts, officials and campaigners from government (including defence and foreign affairs representatives), research organisations, Control Arms campaigners and the arms industry. The objective was to clearly present the purpose of an ATT and discuss how stakeholders would continue to consult and negotiate throughout the process of developing a treaty.

Macedonia
The Journalists for Children and Women’s Rights and Protection of the Environment in Macedonia (JCWE) are spearheading the People’s Consultations in Macedonia. In March JCWE organized one day of training and promotion of their Small Arms and Light Weapons dictionary from English to Macedonian and Albanian; 63 journalists from the printing and electronic media attended. Consultations included public meetings, a media campaign, an official meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and a national consultation where people handed in their toy guns to be made into a sculpture.

Serbia
The Balkan Youth Union (BYU) and the European Bureau for Conscientious Objection (EBCO) have organised consultations throughout Serbia, despite the unstable political and social situation and the difficulty of involving government officials. Consultations were held in Nix, Zajecar and Belgrade with participation from civil society and media organizations; an outcome report was sent to the Government in April.
