| Bereaved families from the UK and Turkey took part at a rally for tougher gun laws in Izmir, Turkey on 14 September 2005. IANSA members the Crozier family, whose daughter Emma was killed in the Dunblane (Scotland) school massacre in 1996, joined with Turkish relatives of 2-year-old Alistair Grimason who was shot dead in 2003. The rally and the UK families’ presence received a great deal of media attention in both the UK and Turkey. |

| In Turkey, the accidental shooting of 23-year-old bride Begum Kartal has fuelled a national campaign to stop aerial firing. Three days before her wedding, Begum was killed by a bullet fired into the air during celebrations. The grandfather of 2-year-old Alistair Grimason, who was shot dead in crossfire in Turkey in 2003, is taking legal action to try to stop celebratory shooting.
