Mozambique
Common position on gun violence
A common position on behalf of Mozambican civil society was submitted by PROPOAZ to the Ministry of Interior. The advocacy document aims at producing a gun-free society and asks the government join civil society to reduce the demand for small arms by disarming minds and promote a fair society ruled by social justice freedom from poverty.

South Africa
Gun crime continues to devastate lives in South Africa, according to an article on the UN Integrated Regional Information Network (IRIN) on 23 May. Several South African IANSA members were quoted in the article.
Football superstar describes getting shot
South African football star Lucas Radebe attended a Control Arms press conference in Johannesberg on 16 March, and spoke about his own experiences of being shot in Soweto and the need for tough international arms controls.
Video screening for students
The University of Pretoria in South Africa had its own launch of 100 days Countdown where students and lecturers attended a video screening and debate on armed violence.
