Brazil: Million Faces petition delivery

Flag in front of congress

A giant “no guns” symbol, made from photos collected as part of the Million faces petition, was assembled by members of the Brazilian Disarmament Network in front of the national congress in São Paulo on 25 May.

Display National Congress

In the afternoon, members of the Brazilian Disarmament Network visited the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs where they presented a proposal designed by CLAVE (Coalition of Latin American NGOs against Armed Violence) of 12 essential points to be considered for the Review Conference. Members also symbolically handed over a Brazilian flag with over 300 of Brazil´s 30 000 faces that have been collected to date.

Schoolchildren support Control Arms
During the Global Week of Action over 300 schools participated in the Control Arms campaign. Teachers of students of all age levels received a “Control Arms kit for teachers” and participated in workshops on how to design a class using the kit. The kit, designed by Sou da Paz, explains why we need an Arms Trade Treaty, how treaties are made, the United Nations and how it functions and other relevant issues. Sou da Paz expects to collect 20,000 self-portraits with this activity.
