Jordan: Workshop on small arms control

SALW workshop

Representatives of the Ministry of Interior and of the General Police Department, and a representative of the Jordanian Parliament attended a workshop focussing on the local and global aspects of the misuse of small arms and their danger on social stability and development. The workshop was organised by the Amman Center for Human Rights Studies, at the Jerusalem Hotel in Amman on 22 May. Representatives from 35 civil society organisations also attended.

On the Jordanian level, the participants agreed that legislations and regulations concerning small arms and light weapons should be tightened. They further agreed on the necessity of adapting local regulations to be in line with international standards and laws.

The Al Dustur newspaper featured Zaha Al-Majali of the Amman Center for Human Rights Studies in an article published 23 May in Arabic.
