100 young people participated in an awareness program organised on 22 May by the Kenya Action Network on Small Arms (KANSA) in Nginyang, complimenting the work done by the government to disarm the community in the area.
Activities took place across the country, organised by District Peace Committees. In Nairobi, activities included youth football, volleyball and netball matches; inter-religious dialogue; and an open forum to discuss insecurity.
Local community and local government discussed the possibility of a Community Policing Forum at a public discussion organised in Embu on 23 May by the Kenya Action Network on Small Arms (KANSA). Later that day, KANSA screened the film Lord of War.
The Week of Action will conclude with a Public Forum at Huruma (Masinde) Sports Ground on 27 May, where Government, police and civil society organisations representatives will talk about the problem of small arms; victims of small arms will also give their testimonies.
This event was widely publicised by a television advertisement, which ran on Kenyan television during the Week of Action.
