Small Arms Bibliography
There
has been a growing awareness in the world of the problems created
by the global surplus of small arms and light weapons. [Canada,
among other nations, has taken the lead in efforts to address
the proliferation of light weapons in the world. This was emphasized
by a recent statement by the Honourable Lloyd Axworthy, Minister
of Foreign Affairs, to a conference on Small Arms, Orillia, Ontario,
Canada, 19 August, 1998. ] Literature on the subject is replete
with statistics outlining the abundance of weaponry and its availability
to groups for use in advancing their particular cause, whether
that be characterized as political terrorism, state repression,
ethnic violence or criminal activity.
