| The International physicians for the prevention
of nuclear war have condemned the proposed attack on Iraq by the
United States and it’s allies. In all of it’s ramification,
with its attendant consequences on the populace. Not only Iraqi
people will be affected, but the attack poses a threat to Global
Peace.
The Organization made these remarks through
a communiqué issued after its regional conference, which
was distributed to newsmen. The release signed by it’s
Regional Vice President for Africa, Dr.Ime John, also advised
the US to seek other diplomatic means to resolving the growing
impasse in collaboration with the United nations.
The conference held at Abuja last week has also,
reiterated the need for global peace. It cautioned countries
from interfering in other countries affairs, and internal wrangling
in African countries which is a contributing factor in crisis
ravaging the continent and underdevelopment.
The communiqué also called on African
Governments not to relent their efforts in curbing the menace
of small arms and child soldiers used by rebels in war torn African
countries. Discussions were made on the strategies to evolve
towards advocacy and enlightening the public on peace initiative
s and nation building.
Finally, emphases were made on health effects
of child soldiers and the consequences on the African region and
the world in general.
