On 21 January 2012, Professor Flory Kayembe Shamba of Réseau Congolais d'Action sur les Armes Légères (RECAAL), DR Congo passed away after a short illness. <--break->

In the DR Congo, the Minister of Interior and Security, in cooperation with IANSA member Réseau Congolais d'Action sur les Armes Légères (RECAAL) and the National Commission om small arms hosted a morning of education on best practice for disarmament on 6 January.

Across DR Congo IANSA members are focusing on media engagement. Femmes des Médias pour la Justice au Congo (FMJC) have published press releases in three national newspapers about their activities, organised with support from the UN Development Programme (UNDP) Country Office.

On 24 March the National Commission on Small Arms in the DR Congo launched a campaign to raise awareness about the proliferation of small arms in the country.
