Full Members of IANSA are civil society organisations whose work includes action to stop firearm proliferation and misuse. They must sign and adhere to the Members’ Charter, and support the mission statement, values and current policy positions of IANSA and demonstrate that some of their activities further the mission.

For 45 minutes on 6, December 1989 an enraged gunman roamed the corridors of Montreal's École Polytechnique in Canada and killed 14 women with his .22-calibre rifle.

The Association des femmes pour les Initiatives de Paix (AFIP), an IANSA member in Mali, is  concerned about the deteriorating security situation in the north of the country, as large groups of Malian expatriates return to the country from Libya. They report that some of the returnees worked as mercenaries in Libya and are bringing small arms back into Mali.

A new report by Groupe de Recherche et d`Information sur la Paix et la Sécurité (GRIP) finds that states are the main suppliers of arms, either directly or indirectly, to non-state actors.

Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu has signed an Interfaith Declaration on an Arms Trade Treaty. He said, "A historic decision was made in 2009 to negotiate a legally binding Arms Trade Treaty.
