Welcome Step taken by Government of
Pakistan against Small Arms

According to a report entitled "Government to close down illegal weapon markets" national news paper daily "The NEWS" dated August 19, 2002, a report, the Interior Ministry of the Government of Pakistan issued a written orders to close down the illegal markets of weapons in North West Frontier Province (NWFP), infamous for violent clashes between rival clans. According to the report, steps were already taken in this regard and 200 shops are closed down in Jamrud, Khyber Agency-Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA). And on Sunday, August 18, 2002, the administration ordered the closure of another market there, which comprises 150 shops.

CAMP hails the step taken by the government of Pakistan towards the elimination of small arms from the country. CAMP is working on the issue and striving hard to eradicate the menace of small arms from the society. It is an encouraging step, which will facilitate the task for CAMP and like-minded NGOs working against small arms.
