Egypt: 7 Churchgoers dead in drive-by shooting

At least seven people were killed and nine were wounded after a drive-by shooting on Nag Hamadi (Egypt) on 7 January 2010, Coptic Christmas Eve. Gunmen sprayed churchgoers leaving a local Coptic church after Christmas midnight mass. Clashes between protesters and riot police touched off after the attack. IANSA member Sherif Azer, from the Egyptian Organisation for Human Rights, said: "We condemn the security forces for not taking the required measures to protect the churches, especially in a region that had previously witnessed violence. We urge the government to impose stricter gun control measures." More
