Chad: 1,200 weapons recovered

1,200 firearms and 10,000 rounds of ammunitions were seized by Chad’s security forces in the East, Central and Northeast regions of the country over a three-month period. The government’s disarmament program aims to recover the large number of guns that civilians have acquired during 40 years of intermittent armed conflicts. It is estimated that 500,000 – 1 million guns are owned by civilians throughout Chad. IANSA member Mouldjidé Ngaryngam from the Forum of Chadian Youth Groups reports that many citizens willingly surrendered their weapons during the program.
