1.6 million illegal guns in the Caribbean

Members of the Jamaican security forces and gunmen clashed in Kingston on 15 March as police tried to capture two local gunmen. Three policemen were injured and the two gunmen were killed during the shooting. Alarm bells have been ringing over the rise of armed violence in the Caribbean. Drug trafficking, the availability of firearms and the proliferation of gangs are considered to be the major factors contributing to the surge of gun crime in the region.
