Philippines: President approves action plan on women, peace & security

On 1 March, Philippines President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo signed an Executive Order that creates a Steering Committee to implement the National Action Plan (NAP) on UN Security Council Resolutions 1325 and 1820. The Philippine NAP includes a section on small arms, including laws regulating registration and possession. “Weapons are directly linked to women’s harassment and death. This is why we pushed for the inclusion of an action point on small arms”, said Jasmin Galace from PhilANSA. The NAP will be launched at the end of March and implementation will begin soon after.
