Sierra Leone: Arms collections and border controls

Gun collections and destructions, border control measures and firearms control policies were discussed by the members of the Sierra Leone National Commission on Small Arms during a two-day retreat in Makeni on 11-12 March. Sam Habor from UNDP said that over 6,000 weapons were collected as 92 chiefdoms in Sierra Leone voluntarily surrendered their weapons. Two border-posts integrating police, customs and immigration were constructed at Gendema and Koindukura which aims to reduce small arms trafficking across the border. Read more here.
