US: Gun violence increases gender gap in life expectancy

Gun violence in New York contributes to an increased gender gap in life expectancy, according to a report from the city’s health department. It finds that New York men are significantly more likely than women to die before the age of 65. It concludes that a major contributiory factor is the rate of gun-related homicides; half of all homicide victims in the city are men aged 18 to 34, out of which about 75% were killed by guns.
