Amnesty International calls for immediate suspension of arms supplies to Bahrain

Amnesty international is calling for states to immediately stop the supply of arms and ammunition to Bahrain, in response to recent violence against protesters in the country, killing at least 8 people. In a report released by today, 'Bloodied but unbowed: Unwarranted state violence against Bahraini protesters', they document how security forces used live ammunition against protesters and medical personnel during demonstrations in February. They stress the need for states to urgently review all arms supplies and training support to Bahrain’s military, security and police forces, and ensure that no arms transfers are authorised where there is a substantial risk that they will be used for serious violations of human rights.
