US: Civil society present recommendations to the Organisation of American States

On 15 April, civil society addressed the Consultative Committee of the Inter-American Convention Against the Illicit Manufacturing of and Trafficking in Firearms, Ammunition, Explosives, and Other Related Material (CIFTA) of the Organisation of American States (OAS) in Washington DC, US. Jeff Abramson of the Arms Control Association, spoke on behalf of a coalition of groups, including IANSA, and said "our recommendations include (...) that OAS member states make a strong positive statement in support of global Arms Trade Treaty negotiations; that states carry out initiatives to increase understanding and measure the problem of gun violence in the region, in particular focusing on victims and survivors of gun violence; and that mechanisms be created for official participation of civil society within the OAS and CIFTA Committee".
