Canada: IANSA Women at Nobel Women conference on sexual violence

Sarah Mastersand other IANSA women participated in the conference of the Nobel Women's Initiative ‘Women Forging a New Security: Ending Sexual Violence in Conflict’ from 23-25 May 2011 in Quebec, Canada. The conference was opened by Nobel Laureates, Jody Williams, Shirin Ebadi, and Mairead Maguire and saw the participation of over 120 civil society activists, corporate and security sector leaders, military and peacekeeping personnel, and academics from around the world. A new article written by Sarah Masters for the openDemocracy website explains how effective control of small arms can be a first step towards reducing and ultimately preventing violence against women, including sexual violence with particular focus on the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) process.
