Increase in US police officers killed by guns

55 police officers were killed with guns in the US in 2010, an increase from 48 the year before, according to new data released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). 38 of the officers were killed with handguns, 15 with rifles, and 2 with shotguns. A new report by the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence details how changes in national gun laws could help prevent and reduce gun violence against police and civilians.
