UN PoA MGE 2011: IANSA side event on Survivors
On 12 May, IANSA co-sponsored a side event with the UN Permanent Mission of Luxembourg to the United Nations entitled ‘Survivors of Gun Violence: Strengthening the UN Programme of Action (PoA)’.

This side event was chaired by Philip Alpers of Gunpolicy.org, with introductory remarks by Mr Olivier Maes, Deputy Representative of the Permanent Mission of Luxembourg to the UN.
Presentations were given by Ms Mewael Okbay Ghebreslassie, Eritrea; Ms Guerda Benjamin, OFAT Haiti; Dr Ms. Nidia Rodriguez, IPPNW, Ecuador; and Laura Lyddon, IANSA Women’s Network, UK.
At the event, a new IANSA Women's Network publication was launched: 'Voices of Survivors: the different faces of gun violence’ which features 16 testimonies from women survivors of gun violence. The testimonies are from a number of different countries and the violence occurs in various contexts and situations. The one common denominator in all of these stories is the misuse of guns.
