Colombia: A day without homicides in Medellin

“There were zero homicides in Medellin on 15 June, during the Disarmament Week” Juan Felipe Palau, the Government Secretary of Medellin, Colombia, said on Twitter. On behalf of the Mayor’s Office, he signed a Declaration for the Reduction of Armed Violence in Colombia. As part of the Week of Action a gun buy back programme is being held throughout the day in 19 churches around the city. In the first 5 months of this year there were 802 homicides in Medellin, an average of 5 per day.
