Guatemala: Transitions Foundation promotes the needs of survivors with disabilities

Transitions Foundation in Guatemala is using the Week of Action to promote their work for people who are disabled as a result of gun violence. In recent weeks they have met with several government ministries, private companies and national health institutions to discuss the needs for services and equipment for survivors with disabilities. They have also received extensive media coverage on the success of their wheelchair basketball team, scheduled to go to the PanAmerican Games in Mexico in November 2011, the first time a team from Guatemala has ever qualified. This year they dedicate the Week to the memory of Julio Cesar Ramirez, a staff member and survivor who passed away recently, saying “Julio will never be forgotten and always serve as a motivation and reminder of why we do what we do”.
