US: How to succeed in social media campaigning

In celebration of the Global Week of Action Against Gun Violence, Global Action to Prevent War (GAPW) organised a social media workshop on “Tweeting to End Gun Violence” in New York, US. It focused on how to use social media tools more effectively for advocacy and education on disarmament. Presenters cited examples such as the indispensable role of Twitter updates in the Arab Spring and the recent 'driving protest' by Saudi women that was spurred on by a YouTube video. The workshop ended with an interactive session where participants composed their own original ‘tweets’ and dissected examples of successful and less successful social media postings.
