Colombia: Largest ever gun destruction on International Day of Peace

Centro de Recursos para el Análisis de Conflictos (CERAC), an IANSA member in Colombia, reports that the largest ever gun destruction in the country took place in the city of Sogamoso on the International Day of Peace, 21 September. A total of 18,394 firearms were melted down in the event, which was organised by the military forces and supervised by the Department of Trade and Control of Firearms, Ammunition and Explosives. The firearms had been voluntarily surrendered by civilians or seized in operations by the military forces and national police. 32,514 weapons have been destroyed in Colombia so far this year.
