Spain: Arms Trade Treaty process brings hope for improved controls on arms transfers

On 3 November, Fundació per la Pau and the International Catalan Institute for Peace (ICIP) held a meeting on ‘Analysis Tools on the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT)’. The speakers, Javier Alcalde of ICIP and Jordi Armadans of Fundació per la Pau, as well as the moderator Tica Font of ICIP, outlined the current level of controls and regulations on trans-national arms transfers and the history of the ATT initiative. They also discussed learning outcomes from other arms control processes. About 25 people attended the meeting, and participated actively with questions and contributions. They concluded that the ATT initiative brings hope as it could establish the first agreement to regulate global arms transfers.
