US: Thousands of felons regain gun ownership rights

Every year, thousands of felons in the US regain the right to own a gun, often with little or no review, according to an article by the New York Times. In several states, these have included people convicted of violent crimes, including domestic violence and murder committed with a gun. Statistics from several states show that many who are given their gun licence back commit crimes again. In Washington DC alone, more than 200 felons who have had their right to own guns restored since 1995 have gone on to commit serious crimes, including assault and drive-by-shooting. The article builds on hundreds of cases where gun rights were restored to former criminals and includes a video and an interactive feature demonstrating the method of their study.
