India: IANSA member nominated for public service award

Manipur Women Gun Survivors Network has been nominated for a CNN IBN Indian of the Year Award 2011 in the category for ‘Public service’. The Manipur Women Gun Survivors Network was founded in 2004 to support women survivors of gun violence in Manipur, India. In a press release, they said “Due to violence, every year 300 widows are born in the state due to insurgency and counter-insurgency operations. To help widows get on with their lives, we set up the organisation”. The selection process for this award involves three stages of which public voting is the final one.
