Mali: IANSA member chairs meeting of governmental experts on small arms marking and tracing

Dickson Nkemakonam Orji of the West African Action Network on Small Arms (WAANSA) -Nigeria was designated the chair of a meeting of governmental experts on marking and tracing of small arms, held in Bamako, Mali from 6 – 8 December. It was held with the aim of adopting common standards for marking and tracing among states in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). It was attended by high level representatives from most ECOWAS member states, who committed to ensuring comprehensive marking and registration of current stockpiles of small arms and ammunition, as well as any new arms they buy or produce. Mr Orji was also part of the Nigerian Delegation at this meeting.
