The Chinese government should establish an independent and transparent investigation into the Dongzhou killings, according to Human Rights Watch.

Chinese security services fired at protestors in Dongzhou village, Guangdong (China) on 6 December 2005.

This is the first known public shooting of protestors since the Tiananmen Square massacre in 1989. At least three people were killed but the death toll could be as high as twenty, according to some reports.

Over 50 Chinese intellectuals have signed an open letter calling for an independent investigation.
