With the continuing activity of heavily
armed ethnic Albanian paramilitary groups in the border regions,
it is thought that there may be more than a million weapons
available to a population of two million. Given the seriousness
of the situation, it is surprising that the regional SALW centre
is in Serbia/Montenegro – IANSA members are persuading
UNDP Skopje to set up a specific centre.
Although the peace between Albanians and Macedonians is tenuous, the government
is committed to selling it to its citizens. As part of the Ohrid Peace Agreement,
