Macedonia

With the continuing activity of heavily armed ethnic Albanian paramilitary groups in the border regions, it is thought that there may be more than a million weapons available to a population of two million. Given the seriousness of the situation, it is surprising that the regional SALW centre is in Serbia/Montenegro – IANSA members are persuading UNDP Skopje to set up a specific centre.

Although the peace between Albanians and Macedonians is tenuous, the government is committed to selling it to its citizens. As part of the Ohrid Peace Agreement, Task Force Fox has set up a successful “Essential Harvest” weapons collection program in Zool.
