A man went on a shooting spree at Dawson College in Montreal (Canada) on 13 September 2006, killing one student and injuring 19 others. He then committed suicide by turning the gun on himself, according to preliminary autopsy results. Several of the victims remained in critical condition as of 15 September.
Reports suggest that the 25-year old shooter carried 3 legally owned weapons with him, including a semiautomatic rifle. Police say his car was packed with ammunition.
IANSA members in Canada are calling for stronger gun control measures, as well as the preservation of existing mechanisms, such as the national long gun registry. The government plans to end the national registry for long guns such as rifles. Click here to visit the website of the Canadian Coalition for Gun Control.
