Ntombi thanks everyone who wrote:

"I'm out of hospital, back home with my mum and dad and baby sister, I want to thank you very much for all the messages of support, I feel like I have a big family all around the world sending me good wishes. My friends at school were surprised to see your messages and for that I told myself that I will get out of hospital and walk again."

Dear Ntombi:

Courage, because the evil of this world escapes even not children,

Courage because the evil will be overcome by the good
Courage because your case is a story of alarm which will wake up the world and will make it possible to save your friends who run the same risk

Courage because the problem of small arms and light weapons is currently encircled by activists all around the world including your father, Joseph Dube

Courage because we are with you at each minute by searching ways and means to fight and eliminate these kinds of problems

Courage because God is with you and fights for innocents like you

Be comforted, my daughter!

I regret the situation that you are living now, it is a sad situation and it is terrible to know the difficult moments that you are living now. I lived through a gun robbery two years ago and I felt the fear and terror that a gun represents. A child like Ntombi with a lot of energy, life and a future must not be hurt in this way!

From El Salvador, a country that lives the impact of gun violence every day, we would like to express our deep concern and support for you and your family in any way possible. God bless Ntombi and help her to overcome this difficult time.

I know that the physicians and health workers that are attending her are going to do their best. This situation reminds me of the need to prevent gun violence and poverty but also to provide assistance to survivors and their families.

Please, feel the support of God and let Ntombi know that there is a big family of IANSA around the world that is waiting for her quick recovery.

It was sad news to us at CAAT Nigeria to hear that some heartless human beings shot you in the process of snatching your father's car. However our fervent prayer is that God will give you quick and full recovery. We also pray that God in his infinite mercies will step in and strengthen you as you undergo the recovery process.

We are praying for you. May God also strengthen your family and supply all that is necessary to bring the desired recovery. You are blessed and highly favoured. The plan of the enemy against you has already failed.

It was shocking but then not new to those of us who are in the front burner of campaigning against the influx of illicit arms into our countries. This is one of the terrible events we contend with daily either in Ajegunle / Oshodi in Nigeria or in Johannesburg in South Africa or elsewhere in the globe. One can only wish the little Ntombi a speedy recovery while we continue pressuring our governments and international bodies to fulfil their promises concerning Control Arms and ATT. Joseph, accept my sympathy.

How painful it is to hear this awful and barbaric event? And especially to a family you knew? Mr. Joseph, this is not only an attack on a family but more on our global community campaigning against the harm caused by guns. I always prayed to God that what is going on in my country, Somalia, will not spread to the rest of the world since I used to see daily children dying on the spot of the crossfire.

I would not be able to bring to you much more than some comfort in this difficult time. I wish a quick recovery for Young Ntombi from this unmerciful act against the children and send sympathy to the whole family. May you please let us know the developments for Ntombi in terms of recovery hoping to get some relief from such information on her recovery. Let’s keep the link of communication going since we are one family on different parts of the planet.

The South African based Ceasefire Campaign would like to add its voice to those from around the world who wish Ntombi a fast and full recovery. This shocking incident highlights the prolific use of guns in South Africa and the consequences this has for innocent bystanders. The violence that permeates South African society and the ease with which guns are used to violate basic freedoms is yet another manifestation of the dehumanising nature of our apartheid past and the way exclusion and marginalisation continue to cheapen human life.

It is our hope that highlighting the devastating effect of this violence on people like Ntombi will add impetus and urgency to the desperate need for us to work together in building a nation free of guns and violence, in which children and adults alike can live in dignity and without fear, in the knowledge that their existence is both valued and appreciated. All power to Ntombi, her dad Joseph, and the entire Dube family as they come to terms with this incident and renew their commitment to struggle on for a different, better future.
