All sectors of Brazilian society are affected by armed violence. The march was organized along the lines of a samba school parade, with sections representing different sectors of society affected by armed violence, including victims, youth, government officials, the business community, the elderly, and police.
Families and victims of gun violence headed up Sunday’s march for a Gun Free Brasil. This woman holds a sign with her name that reads “ Yet another victim of a stray bullet.” The mother of a gun victim makes her plea for justice.
Government officials, including the Minister of Justice, the
National Secretary for Public Security, the President of Congress, and the National Secretary for Human Rights were present at the march.
Children show their support for the Disarmament Statute with a GUN FREE BRASIL headband distributed by Viva Rio.
An elderly woman holding white roses makes her appeal for an end to armed violence.
After the murder of one employee in June of this year, the company DataPrev had a large turn-out at the event.
