Support Arms Trade Treaty, urge Pakistan NGOs

Campaigners and experts discussed the flow of weapons in Pakistan at a seminar in Peshawar, 29 February 2009

Pakistan civil society is becoming more engaged with the urgent need for an Arms Trade Treaty (ATT), through a series of workshops organised by the Community Appraisal & Motivation Programme (CAMP).

Provincial seminars were organised in Peshawar and Karachi, with speakers providing information about the impact of small arms proliferation in Pakistan, and the process towards an Arms Trade Treaty at the United Nations.

The final seminar was a national event, hosted in Islamabad on 5 <arch. The UK High Commissioner gave a short speech outlining the importance of civil society in obtaining an effective ATT.

Each of the seminars has received significant national media coverage, illustrated in English newspapers on the right of this page.
