UN Small Arms Review Conference:
IANSA position papers

The UN Small Arms Review Conference will take place in New York, 26 June to 7 July. Governments will decide the future of the UN process on small arms control.

The Presidant-designate of the RevCon, Ambassador Kariyawasam of Sri Lanka, has prepared a proposed draft outcome document after consulattions with numerous States.

Your government will determine its positions on most issues related to the RevCon during May and June.

The documents below cover the five key subjects identified by the IANSA network as priority issues for the RevCon. Click here to read a guide on how to use these documents in your meetings with government officials.

1. Controls on international transfers of small arms
2. National firearms legislation
3. Integrating development and small arms control
4. Responding to the needs of survivors of small arms violence
5. Follow-on mechanisms for the UN process on small arms

These documents have been written and reviewed by working groups consisting of IANSA members around the world.

The position paper is written in diplomatic language and should be given to the government officials that you meet. The lobbying points are for you and your colleagues only, to explain the subject and help you prepare for your meetings.
