International Day of Persons with Disabilities: IANSA members call for survivor assistance

3 December was the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. 3000 people are seriously injured by guns every day, many injuries leading to long-term or permanent disability. IANSA members are campaigning for effective gun control to reduce the levels of firearm death and injury, and for an assessment of the needs of survivors to be included in National Action Plans under the UN Programme of Action on Small Arms. IANSA Women are calling for women survivors to be recognised and included in peace building initiatives. Activities marking the day included a public event in Uganda where IANSA member People With Disabilities called for security and equal rights for all members of society.
