US: Four campus shootings in one week

America’s educational institutions have seen a wave of gun violence in the past week, with shootings on four campuses across the country. Ten students, including a 15 year old boy, were shot dead and 17 were wounded in schools and colleges across the US.

India: Close loopholes to prevent school shootings

Dangerous loopholes in the Indian Arms Act need to be addressed urgently, warned the Control Arms Foundation of India (CAFI). Arms experts, activists, lawyers and teachers urged the government to tighten gun laws at a conference organised by CAFI in New Delhi on 6 February.

Kenya: Two MPs shot dead in a week

Two members of Kenya's opposition Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) were shot dead within 72 hours this week. The second death temporarily postponed negotiations on the violence that has erupted since the disputed re-election of Mwai Kiaiki as president.
