IANSA member Instituto Sou da Paz mobilised volunteers to participate in the March for Women. The Paulista Avenue, one of the busiest streets in downtown São Paulo, was temporally closed off for the march that drew more than 30,000 women from all over Brazil.
Volunteers mobilised by the Instituto Sou da Paz gathered in the Peace and Solidarity section of the march carrying banners conveying the desire of Brazilian women for disarmament and the end of violence against women. Before and after the march volunteers were able to talk to people about the Control Arms campaign and took around 150 photos for the million faces petition!
During the event Instituto Sou da Paz announced the launch of the report The impact of guns on women’s lives that shows how women around the world are leading campaigns to end armed violence. In Brazil Instituto Sou da Paz will be making the report available to hundreds of women’s organisations in Portuguese both in print and on their website.
