Women’s Network Bulletin
The IANSA Women’s Network has created this new bulletin to generate and exchange information on women and gun violence. It will be sent out by email approximately every 6 weeks and posted http://www.iansa.org/women. The bulletin will profile an NGO working on gender and armed violence issues, as well as provide links to media clips, new resources and events of significance and other information. Please send suggestions, feedback or story ideas to women@iansa.org
The Women's Network aims to mobilize NGOs working on any and all aspects of women’s rights, eliminating sexual violence, gender and disarmament, advancing the recognition of women’s leadership and expertise in tackling armed violence at local, national, regional and global levels. It was created in 2001 and is IANSA’s first thematic network.
Women’s Network Working Group
In March 2004 the Women’s Network Working Group (of which active volunteers are welcomed) developed a set of tasks to update and further develop information to be posted at http://www.iansa.org/women for use by ALL IANSA participants to lobby, advocate, further awareness on issues related to women and gun violence. This will include a bibliography of resources, fact sheets, news clips and links to be available in July.
Additional longer term work will be devoted to developing policy and advocacy information, particularly in the lead up to the 2005 United Nations Second Biennial Meeting of States and the 2006 Review Conference on small arms and light weapons.
Women’s Network Audit
As part of this effort, the Women’s Network is about to conduct an audit of IANSA participants activities (eg. research, policy, lobbying, training) on gender, women’s rights, masculinity. This will be sent in a following email. Please return this simple questionnaire by JUNE 30 so that we can better understand the work IANSA participants are undertaking on gender, and develop advocacy and policy information of use to IANSA participants. It is available here. Please return the questionnaire by e-amil to: women@iansa.org.
