May 2007: We are delighted to announce the launch of the Manipuri Women Gun Survivor's Network in India on 26 April 2007. The network was established by women to help the survivors of gun violence, to control the use and spread of small arms and to find ways to heal the scars that decades of violence have caused to the community in Manipur.

The launch was part of the People's Consultation on the Arms Trade Treaty that was jointly organised by Manipuri Women Gun Survivor's Network, Control Arms Foundation of India (CAFI) and IANSA. The event was attended by around 70 people from all walks of life and covered in 13 local and regional newspapers as well as the electronic media.

The response from the people of Manipur and Assam was overwhelming. It inspired all to join hands to work together for peace and to demand that state as well as non-state actors who have access to guns should conduct their actions in accordance to human rights and international humanitarian law.

The resolutions passed during the meetings in Imphal and Guwahati will be sent to the Government of India to urge for their positive participation in the ongoing United Nations Secretary General's Resolution on the International Arms Trade Treaty.
