Seventh Biennial Meeting of States on the United Nations Programme of Action on Small Arms
From June 15-19 of 2020, the seventh Biennial Meeting of States (BMS7) will take place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City to consider the national, regional, and global implementation of the Programme of Action to Prevent, Combat and Eradicate the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in All Its Aspects (PoA). BMS7 will give states a chance to report on their progress on old and new commitments under the PoA. Learn more about BMS7 and read why member states think the PoA is vital here.
2018 Third Review Conference (RevCon3) on the Programme of Action on Small Arms and its Preparatory Committee: Report of the United Nations Conference on the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in All Its Aspects
In 2001, all governments of the United Nations Member States agreed to establish and improve national laws, import/export controls, and stockpile management to prevent the illicit manufacture, transfer, and circulation of small arms and light weapons. They did so through a set of far reaching commitments made in a guiding United Nations document called The Programme of Action to Prevent, Combat and Eradicate the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in All Its Aspects (PoA). It is the definitive framework agreed by the UN General Assembly for actions to counter the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons in all its aspects.
IANSA participates in regular meetings and conferences related to the PoA and actively works to encourage governments to fulfill their commitments.
